The first thing I noticed when looking at this photography is the intense atmosphere. It feels like a sultry summer evening on a beach. Of course the title "Sunset" is a metaphor for a scenery like that.
When looking closer you realize that the pens could be standing for so many things: trees, roofs, waves, parasols, hats… it really is up to everybody to decide.
The picture is vivid in composition, but calm in colors. This contrast fits to the sultry feeling I had at the beginning. There is something under the calm first appearance that is almost cooking like a vulcano, which is ready to erupt.
I am not a photography expert, but I do notice the noise and how there seems to be a small area of focuse only. Especially in the "sky" the noise is conflicting with the quality, as some artefacts appear. I can't tell wether it's from post-production or camera, but it disturbs the atmosphere a bit.
The crop could be improved, especially thinking of "Sunset", by creating a wider panorama. This would underline the impression of a horizon. I do like how the 2 parts of the image are seperated in the middle, but I am also wondering if maybe allowing more space above the pens, would possibly help conveying an actual sunset/horizon image.
Alltogether this is a very intense and metaphorical photography, that surely catches your eye!
I agree with you, almost all of my pictures (if not all) have that problem, the noise level..
Could it be due to a simple camera (some of my photographs were taken using a Canon Powershot A460, this particular one was taken with an Olympus VR310) or am I making a mistake I'm not aware of and my photos CAN look better with a simple camera?
Hey, Thanks for the note, I too had that problem it drove me crazy and then I found the meta button on my cannon you can use photoshop with a filter and it will all so take the grain out of the picture. I will clip one of your pictures and show you how to do it, you will like it,I will do it in 4 days I am in a project for getty.com if you dont here from me in 4 day send a note .peace for know
